Can you use filtration instead of centrifugation in the K-YBGL method?

Modified on Wed, 1 Oct at 1:44 PM

In the analysis of both total glucan and α-glucan content, effective clarification of the sample is a critical step to help ensure accurate and reproducible results. Various clarification methods can be employed depending on the nature of the sample and the available laboratory resources. Among the most commonly used techniques are paper filtration, syringe filtration, and centrifugation.

Importantly, all three clarification techniques are compatible with both total glucan and α-glucan methodologies in K-YBGL. Their applicability across these assays provides flexibility in method use and adaptation to different sample types or throughput requirements. The choice of clarification method may depend on the specific characteristics of the sample matrix, the required level of clarity, and practical considerations such as time constraints and equipment availability.
