When you analyse de-fatted and dried sample, the dietary fiber (DF) obtained after the analysis is expressed in % of dry sample (g/100g), as per calculations given.
These calculations can be greatly simplified by using our megacalc application for this kit: Total Dietary Fiber (K-TDFR) Mega-Calc.
If you require your obtained values are to be expressed in % of the original sample i.e. before defatting and drying, they will need to be adjusted backwards.
If the DF is 2 % (g/100g) in dry material, and loss due to de-fatting and drying is 20% then the DF per 100 g of as is material (as received) will be calculated as follows:
DF in dry sample (2 %) x (100 – % loss on defatting and drying (20) ) /100 = 1.6 %.
1.6 %.
